New European Union regulations which came into force on 1 January 2002 prohibit the disposal of old fridges in the traditional ways, for example scrap yards and landfill sites. Householders will probably find that their supplier of a new fridge will no longer take back the old one without charge. To dispose of fridges and freezers there are two options for householders:
